Foot reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a therapy that deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet relative to each and every organ, function and part of the human body. There are over 7000 nerve endings in each foot and in Reflexology a thumb and finger walking technique is applied to the whole foot or hand. This stimulates the nerve pathways and sends energy or impulses through the entire system to help the body’s own healing potential.

Evidence of the use of Reflexology as a therapy goes back as far as 2330BC and much of its theory ties in with the use of energy pathways or meridians of Chinese acupuncture.

What can Reflexology help?

Reflexology is an holistic therapy and has the potential to assist many conditions. "Holistic" means that it aims to treat the whole person - mind, body and spirit. Rather than looking upon an illness or pain as a list of symptoms to be suppressed, it deals with the disharmony by releasing the tensions or blockages in the body at their source - i.e. the root cause of the problem.

Reflexology can be particularly beneficial for all forms of back problems, asthma, sinus problems, stress related conditions, irritable bowel syndrome, depression and migraine to name but a few. Long-standing conditions may also respond well to hand or foot reflexology. For example, Multiple Sclerosis sufferers have reported symptomatic relief.

Aims of Reflexology

Reflexology improves nerve and blood supply, relaxes tension and restores balance to the body. It boosts the immune system and puts the body in a state from which it can begin to heal itself.

Relaxation is the greatest benefit Reflexology brings to the mind and body. Without relaxation we cease to function efficiently leading to deep rooted tensions and health problems.
